Giving Back to Our Community: 2009-2010
On November 9 we will launch our 2009 Saint Paul Public Schools Community Giving Campaign. I want to thank each of you for your past generosity and support and encourage your continued support this year.

Your giving, both individually and collectively, provides greater access and opportunity for our students, their families and the community. And, perhaps more importantly, your contributions inspire hope and build the foundation for countless brighter tomorrows.

In 2008, more than 1,100 Saint Paul Public Schools employees donated more than $119,000 to local charities and community organizations through the giving campaign. This year, we want to exceed that amount and increase our overall participation. I know that these are tough economic times, but it is now that the needs are the greatest and that even a small contribution can go a long way. I agree with the great American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow who said, “Give what you have to somebody, it may be better than you think.”

By participating in workplace giving, you give our community's nonprofits more visibility and you allow SPPS and nonprofits to work together to improve our community. Additionally, you receive the benefit of feeling actively engaged in issues that you really care about.

This year’s campaign theme is Standing Together: Focusing on Excellence. I encourage you to review the informational materials provided by the members of this year’s Federation of Charities and select an organization that best reflects your interests and area of passion.

Thank you in advance for whatever you are able to contribute.

Best Regards,

Suzanne P. Kelly
